Size and fit
How do I choose my size?
Every piece’s page lists full measurements for each size, in centimetres and inches, and gives the model’s height.
Can I have a piece sewn to my measurements?
Yes. Choose Your own measurements when you pre-book or order, and we sew the piece to fit you. We ask for your measurements before we start sewing. A piece sewn to your own measurements cannot be returned.
Can you help me with my size, or change a piece?
Yes. Under Personal advice we help you with measurements, choosing a piece, colour and care, and with a custom piece in your own colour from our natural dyes, or a model you have in mind, made from our fabrics. A custom piece gets a price before anything is sewn.
Cloth, colour and care
What are the pieces made of?
Plant-based fibres: pure cotton, pure hemp, linen and blends, and also Tencel and Bemberg (cupro), which are made from plant cellulose. Each piece’s page names its cloth and the percentage of each fibre in any blend.
What is hemp cloth?
Hemp cloth is woven from fibres in the stem of the hemp plant. The fibres sit just under the bark, are spun into yarn and then woven into cloth. Each piece’s page says whether its cloth is pure hemp or a blend.
What is lyocell, and is it the same as Tencel?
Lyocell is a fibre made from cellulose in wood pulp. The cellulose is dissolved and spun into new fibres. Tencel is a brand name for lyocell, so Tencel is always lyocell, but not all lyocell is Tencel.
What is cupro, and is it the same as Bemberg?
Cupro is a fibre made from cellulose in cotton linter, the short fibres left on cotton seeds. The cellulose is dissolved in a solution of copper and ammonia and spun into new fibres. Bemberg is a brand name for cupro.
What is khadi?
Khadi is an Indian cloth woven by hand from yarn that is also spun by hand, from cotton, silk or wool. Each piece’s page names its cloth.
What is the difference between handloom and handwoven?
Handloom is the loom, one worked by hand with no motor. Handwoven describes the cloth, woven by hand, usually on such a loom. In everyday use the two words mean nearly the same. The opposite is mill-woven cloth. We use both handwoven and mill-woven cloth.
What is slow fashion?
Slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion: fewer pieces, made with more care and meant to be worn for a long time. Our pieces are sewn after booking.
Why might my piece look a little different from the photo?
The cloth is dyed by hand with natural dyes, so the shade can shift from batch to batch. The photographs are shot in natural light, so the colour may differ slightly from your piece.
How do I wash and care for my piece?
Wash only when it really needs it, in cold water with a very mild detergent, or just rinse in water with a little vinegar. Wash separately and dry in the shade. Do not iron, steam instead. No dry cleaning. Plant-dyed colour fades over time.
Are your clothes chemical-free?
We do not claim that our pieces are chemical-free. What we can say is specific: the cloth comes from plant-based fibres and is dyed by hand with natural dyes or left undyed. Each piece’s page names its cloth and, if it is dyed, what dyed it.
Will the natural dye colour fade?
Yes, natural dye colour fades over time. Wash only when it really needs it, in cold water with a very mild detergent, and dry in the shade, and the colour lasts longer.
What is the cloth dyed with?
With natural dyes: flowers, leaves, bark, fruit peel and roots, among them indigo, sappanwood, madder, catechu, henna, myrobalan and turmeric. Some cloth is eco-printed by hand with teak leaves, one blouse is dyed with lac, which comes from an insect, and some cloth is left undyed. It is dyed by hand by our partners in India, and the cloth is dried in the sun. Each dyed piece’s page says what dyed its cloth.
Is the fabric organic and certified?
Materials are sourced from GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Sedex, Silk Mark and ISO certified vendors. We hold no environmental certification of our own, and we do not call the cloth organic. What we can tell you is what each cloth is and what dyed it, on every piece’s page.
About Bhadhram
How do you say Bhadhram?
Say it “BHUD-rum”, like “bud” and “rum”. The name comes from the Malayalam word ഭദ്രം, which means safe. People also write it Badram, Bhadram or Badhram, and all of those mean us.
Can I see the pieces in person?
Yes, at our showings. First showing: 6 and 7 November 2026, at a sustainability event run by the City of Gothenburg.
Who sews the pieces?
Local artisans at an independent stitching unit in Keralam (Kerala). Each piece is sewn after it has been ordered.
